Water Quality - New filter

    Hey!

Super excited about the iron filter going online. I actually think the lake looks more clear than I've ever seen it but guessing that's more a function of the rain and temperature--not the new filter, right?

Does anyone know how long it'll take for the impact to be realized?

We haven't operated the filter enough to see any noticeable difference from that project alone, unfortunately.  We have run about 3,000,000 gallons through the filter this fall during a few phases of operation as we learn more about how the system operates in real-time, what maintenance requirements it will have, and troubleshoot the occasional problem. The filter's operation is currently in a paused state and we will be forced to take it offline for the winter very soon as colder temperatures move in.

The dredging and restoration of the pond in Hansen Park alone accounts for most of the water quality improvements we expect from the project.  The iron-enhanced sand filter is a smaller, but also important, piece of the puzzle.  With all of the work done at Hansen Park, Mirror Lake, and Middle Rice Creek, in conjunction with future carp management efforts, we expect to see some measurable improvements in the quality and clarity in Long Lake over the coming years.

    Stay tuned!

Sam - Thanks for posting this on the Forum.  I also witnessed the water clarity while taking my dock out last week.  I anticipate it's likely due to rain, cool weather, and lack of boats/wakes on the lake... but I'd like to think optimistically that it's the improvements going online as well. :)

Alex - I appreciate the response direct from RCWD.  We appreciate all you and RCWD are doing to improve our lake.  Looking forward to more updates.
